Electronics Workshop for STEM Promotion

24th November 2022

The IEEE Students Branch of Goa College of Engineering (GEC) in association with Department of Electronics & Telecommunication, GEC conducted an Electronics Workshop for STEM promotion in 3 schools - Rajmata Padmavati Raje Saundekar High School, Ponda, Vidhya Vruddhi High School, Ponda and Lokmanya Tilak Vidyalaya, Ponda, where we aimed to promote Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics by introducing basic electronics to the students of class 7th, 8th , 9th, and 10th December 2022.
Basic electronics concepts such as current, voltage, resistance and so on, to build up a base before performing the experiments. After completion of the experiments, project and demonstration, the students were introduced to an application of Electronics (ROBOTICS). Videos related to robo-wars were shown to the students and the students were given hands-on experience to operate a racing bot. A practical application of LDR (Controlling brightness of an image using photoresistor) was also demonstrated to the students.

Workshop on PCB design using KiCad

The IEEE Students Branch of Goa College of Engineering (GEC) in association with the ARM (Automation Robotics and Mobility) Society of GEC conducted a PCB Design Workshop using Ki-Cad in Goa College of Engineering, Ponda – Goa from 30th November 2022 to 2nd December 2022. The speaker for this workshop was Prof. Milind Fernandes.
The workshop aimed to enable students to design PCBs with open-source software like kiCad with precise yet simple explanations for a beginner to understand the concepts and guidelines of PCB design.

Meet and Greet for new Members

24th November 2022

An IEEE members meetup was held on November 24, 2022 in the Electronics and Telecommunications Department of Goa College of Engineering on. The event was attended by approximately 50 people, including faculty.
The meetup began with a networking session, where attendees had the opportunity to meet and talk with other members. This was followed by introductions, where members shared their insights and experiences on the current state of the tech industry. We were also joined by our chairperson, Mr.Akhil Kushe, who is currently interning at Intel in Bangalore. Attendees learned about the latest trends and developments in the tech industry, as well as the hallenges and opportunities facing the industry. Akhil also offered advice and insights on how to succeed in the tech industry, including tips on networking, building a successful career, and staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
After the panel discussion, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in further discussions with the council and other attendees.

Interview Session with Marty Cooper

15th January 2022

On January 15, 2021, we had the opportunity to interview Mr. Martin ‘Marty’ Cooper, today known as ‘Father of the Handheld Cellphone’ was the one who led the Motorola team that developed the world’s first handheld cellphone. Besides questions framed by the hosts, Marty was asked audience questions as sent in a Google form as well as live audience questions. Beginning by talking about his college journey, Marty mentioned the importance of ‘learning to learn’ in college. He mentioned his fondness of learning and how he wishes no one to ever stop learning given scientific studies that show what a lack of cognition can do to a human.
As far as the future of the communication industry is concerned, Marty remarked that we are only at the beginning of the cell phone revolution and asked engineering students to be on the lookout for
